Start with the commercial objective
Explain where the products will be sold, who the target customer is and the intended retail or wholesale price position. A supplier cannot recommend the right construction or packaging without understanding the commercial context.
Information to confirm
- Destination country and sales channel
- Target customer and age group
- Launch window or required shipment timing
- Target retail, wholesale or landed-cost position
Define products at SKU level
List each product or set separately. State the estimated quantity per SKU, preferred dimensions, materials, colors and required functions. Reference images are useful, but they should support written specifications rather than replace them.
Information to confirm
- Product name and quantity per SKU
- Size, material and component requirements
- Number of colors, designs or assortments
- Reference images and must-have details
Separate artwork from packaging
Product decoration and retail packaging often use different processes, minimum quantities and approval files. Describe both so the quotation includes the correct printing, labels, inserts and packing labor.
Information to confirm
- Logo or artwork application process
- Unit packaging and display requirements
- Barcode, warning and language labels
- Inner carton and master carton requirements
State compliance and delivery inputs
Testing, documentation and inspection cannot be estimated reliably without the destination market and intended use. Provide these requirements before samples or production are approved.
Information to confirm
- Required standards or customer protocols
- Testing laboratory or inspection preference
- Delivery location and trade term
- Required shipment documents
